Margaret Ann Pepping, 91, of Danville, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Pape Family Funeral Home, with Terry Walters officiating. Memorials may be made in her name to Danville United Church of Christ or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Graveside service will be at Sunset Cemetery in Danville.
Margaret was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Akron, Ohio, to Robert Speed and Gladys Smith (McGuire) Black. She attended Stone Bluff Grade School and graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1940. Margaret then attended St. Elizabeth’s College of Nursing in Danville. Margaret cared for and touched the lives of many patients in her years as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Danville. She retired from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in 1977. Margaret was always kind to everyone and would stop to say hello to all that she knew. A great kindness always resided in her heart and she made friends everywhere she went.
Margaret was a member of the Danville United Church of Christ. She was also very active in the PTA and Parents Music Association at South View Middle School. She was a member of the Demolay Mother’s Club and Business and Professional Women. Margaret also belonged to several bridge clubs. She enjoyed many Friendly Mixers’ square dancing events with her husband. They also enjoyed bowling and traveling. Above all, Margaret was a mother. She spent many hours volunteering in her children’s activities and serving as a Cub Scouts’ den mother.
Margaret married the love of her life, Robert Edwin Pepping on Oct. 24, 1943, in Danville. He preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 2001. She is survived by her two children, Dr. Richard (Jeanne) Pepping of Albuquerque, N.M. and Jennifer (Thomas) Szott of Danville; five grandchildren, Amanda (John Lane) Pepping, Matthew (Lauren) Pepping and Julia (Andrew) Gaffney, Meg (Corey) Jacobson and Allen Szott; and one sister, Jean Fisher of Veedersburg, Ind. She was preceded by her parents; her beloved husband, Robert; daughter, Roberta Pepping; grandchildren, Michael Francis, Rebecca Ann and David Edwin; and brothers, George and Robert Black.
