Ruby Marie Mariage, 94, of Georgetown, passed away at 4:50 p.m., Monday, June 9, 2014, at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living, Chrisman.
On Dec. 16, 1919, she was born, the daughter of Lingle A. and Iva G. (Tolbert) Riggle in Bicknell, Ind.
She was united in marriage to Edward Raymond Mariage on Sept. 5, 1940, in Kankakee until his passing on April 8, 1977.
Ruby worked for Peterson-Puritan for 7½ years, as well as, a cook for Georgetown schools located on Seminary Street for 15 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 65 years and a member of Georgetown Church of the Nazarene.
Ruby was known by family and friends as the “lady who sent cards” and remembered everyone, especially their birthdays. She enjoyed playing games with her good friends, Alice, Beulah, Edith, Rosemary, Johanna, Violet and Mary, all of whom preceded her in death. Ruby also enjoyed oil painting, needlework and quilting. She enjoyed camping at Lake Hideaway with her family.
Ruby will be dearly missed by her son, Sammy (Gloria) Mariage of Georgetown; her daughter, Linda (Jerry) Cook of Ridge Farm; her grandchildren, Sheldon Cook of Kansas City, Mo., and Aaron (Kacie) Cook of Virginia; her great-grandchildren, Kyle and Hanah; her brother, Albert (Sharon) Riggle of Sidell; and her sister, Donna (Jack) Deck of Olivet. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Rufus, Junior, Warren, Arthur and Frank Riggle; and her niece, Susan (Riggle) Gillespie.
A celebration of Ruby’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at Sunset’s Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown, with Chaplain Karl Marshall officiating. Visitation will be 9-11a.m., Thursday, June 12, prior to her service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her name to the food pantry at First Church of Christ, Georgetown.
