Willie Lue Hunter Micou

Willie Lue Hunter Micou was born Sept. 3, 1930, to Florine Mitchell-Hunter and Simon Hunter in Como, Miss.
Willie confessed a hope in Christ at a young age and was a member of Hunter Chapel Missionary Baptist in Como, under the leadership of D.H. Johnson. Willie relocated to Danville, Ill., in 1958 and united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Willie was a member of the Antioch senior choir, the Gospel Chorus, the Spiritual Harmonetes, the Spirit Connections Group and the Soul Searchers. Her favorite song was “Go Ahead.”
Willie married Hugh Micou in 1983. He preceded her in death.
Willie worked at Lakeview Memorial Hospital, Wolford Hotel, The Holiday Inn and retired from the Veterans Affairs hospital after 20 years of service. She also was affiliated with several organizations in the Danville area, such as the Antioch Helping Hands Missionary Group and the Elmwood Community Playground and Civic Group. Willie loved the Lord and was faithful in service. She adored her children and family and enjoyed attending church. Willie also enjoyed quilting and gardening.
Willie transitioned from this life at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Presence United Samaritans Hospital in Danville.
Willie leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Eugene Hunter, Janice Denise Derrickson (Ronald) and Cora Lee Hunter, all of Danville; two step-daughters, Gloria (Huey) Micou Brown of Danville and Charlotte Micou Wadford of Chicago; her grandchildren, Kesha Simmons-Brown, Richard Lee Carter III and Aaron D. Lamar Carter, all of Atlanta, Ga. Kelvonte Eugene Hunter and Kelen Jean Williams; great-grandchildren, Kyra Simmons, Kamron Brown, Kamil Brown and Pryce Young; her siblings, Owen Lee Nelson and Margaret Hoskins of Danville, Leroy (Pearl) Hunter-Houghton of Los Angeles, Robert Earl Hunter of Memphis, Tenn., Clara King of Atlanta, Ga., Rosie Milligan and Kenyaka (Phillip) Beckley of Los Angeles, Calif., Elder Johnnie Mae Smith of Memphis, Tenn., Lilly Bell Townsend of Como, Miss., and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Willie was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Micou; her parents; two sisters, Cora Lee Hunter and Nelie Bell Bowden; two brothers, Moses Hunter and Willie B. Sanders; and stepson Hugh B. Micou; and stepdaughter, Sandra I. MiCou.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at noon Friday Nov. 1, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 311 N. Collett St., Danville. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating pastor will be Lucius Barber. Interment: Spring Hill Cemetery. A public viewing will commence from 1-5pm Thursday, Oct. 31, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 304 E. Williams St., Danville.
