---- — Jessie Rolene Witt Archer, 98 of Savoy, Ill., and formerly of Broadlands, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Heartland Health Care Center in Champaign.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Joines-Appleby Funeral Home in Newman. Pastor Clyde Snyder will officiate. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Broadlands. A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at the funeral home.

Jessie was born Sept. 23, 1915, in Broadlands, a daughter of Oscar and Zermah Benefiel Witt.

She married Harry Lytton Archer on Feb. 7, 1936. He preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2006.

Survivors include her children, Harriett (Donald) Cress of Broadlands and Nelson (Katrina) Archer of Chatham; grandchildren, Randal Cress of Dallas, Texas, Tari (Jeff) Wright of Allerton, Tim Cress of Broadlands, Amy (Jeff) Jachim of Lisle, Ill., and Jeff (Kristi) Archer of Decatur; and great-grandchildren, Jessica Wright, Nichole Cress, Aaron Cress, Ashlyn Jachim, Nicholas Jachim, Maranda and Christian Archer. A sister, Lyla Nofftz of Champaign, also survives.

Jessie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a great-grandson, James Wright; and an infant granddaughter.

She was a member of Allerton United Methodist Church. She was previously a member of the Presbyterian Church, where she worked as a member of the women’s group and taught Sunday School at all levels.

She worked as a bookkeeper until she became a housewife and mother. With her children grown, she went to work as a cashier at the State Bank of Allerton. She loved to play golf and was an avid bowler. She was voted into the Champaign-Urbana Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame.

Her favorite pastimes were crocheting and needlepoint. She made afghans for all her family members and many others were donated to charity.

Donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital, the Broadlands Fire Department, Windsor of Savoy, or Allerton Methodist Church. Joines-Appleby Funeral Home of Newman is in charge of arrangements.
