Virginia 'Ginny' Ann (Garfield) Hanson

OGDEN, Utah — Virginia “Ginny” Ann Garfield Hanson, 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2013.

She was born in Danville, Ill., on Nov. 12, 1937.

She graduated from Danville High School in 1955 and attended Miami University of Oxford, Ohio, for three years, where she studied business.

She married Martin P. Hanson of Watseka on Jan. 2, 1960.

Ginny began working in high school as a solicitor for the United Fund in Danville. After college her career continued with the Navy Department in Arlington, Va., and ended with her retirement from Raytheon Engineers & Constructors in Downers Grove.

Survivors include: her husband, Martin P. Hanson Sr., Darien, Ill.; sons, Martin Philip (Mary) Hanson Jr., Pinckney, Mich., and Adam Gunnar (Teddie) Hanson, Roy, Utah; granddaughters, Melissa Hanson, Kalamazoo, Mich., Josephine Hanson, Pinckney, Mich., and Sonie Christensen, Clearfield, Utah; brother, William David (Jeanie) Garfield, Katy, Texas; stepfather, Elwood J. “Woody” Farmer, Urbana; brother-in-law, Warren “Gus” (Jan) Hanson, Watseka; sister-in-law, Karen Babbitt, Redmond, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

Being Phil and Gunnar’s mother brought her joy. She loved cats, lighthouses, long leisurely walks, reading and spending time near the ocean.

Preceding Ginny in death were her mother, Emily L. Garfield Farmer – 1914-2004; and stepfather, Harold F. Garfield – 1896-1964.

A celebration of Ginny’s life will take place at a later date at which time her remains will be scattered at her favorite place in New Hampshire.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Legacy House of Ogden, Utah, and HCNU Hospice for the loving care they provided Ginny these past two months.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., Seventh Floor, New York, NY 10001, or a Humane Society chapter of your choosing.
