Charles E. Quartier

WESTVILLE — WESTVILLE – Charles E. Quartier, 84, of Westville, passed away at 7:18 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 30, 1928, in Westville, the son of Charles Eugene and Opal Grace (O’Reily) Quartier, both deceased.

He was united in marriage to Eunice Bossoloni on Sept. 10, 1949, until her passing.

He will be missed by: his sons, Earl Quartier of Westville, Scott (Kathryn) Quartier of Westville and Dominic Quartier of Louisiana; his daughter, Charla Quartier of Westville; his grandchildren, Christopher (Amber) Quartier of Marion, Iowa, Bryce (Jenna) Quartier of Peoria, Adam Quartier of Chicago and Daniel Quartier of Louisiana; his sisters, Joyce (Bill) Leverenz of Danville and Betty (John) Mansfield of Florida; his sisters-in-law, Ethel Bossoloni and Elaine Bonebrake; his special friend, Rose Banks; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles graduated from Westville High School Class of 1946. He was employed for 39 years at General Motors Tilton Foundry.

He was a Cub Scout master for 10 years, served on the Westville School Board for four terms, and he also served on the Westville Village Board. He was an officer for the Trinity United Church of Christ and a lifetime member of the Odd Fellows. Charles also belonged to the Elks for 25 years as well as was past commander of the American Legion Post 51 where he also belonged to the 40/8 as a member and past commander. He was the UAW representative for 10 years, eight of which he served as the vice president.

Charles was known for writing the poem which stands on the Miner’s Plaque at Zamberletti Park in Westville. He was proud that during his time in the U.S. Marines he served as Honor Guard in Washington, D.C. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and gardening. He loved spending time with friends and family.

A celebration of Charles’ life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, Westville, with pastor James Blue officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 51.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in his name to: American Legion Post 51 – Handicapped Accessibility Fund, the Westville Community Academic Foundation or to donor’s choice of charity.
