DANVILLE — Sharon Kay Gillespie, 67, of Danville, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.
She was born April 4, 1946, in Shelbyville, Ill., a daughter of James J. and Faretta Frances Tripp Taylor.
She married F. Dean Gillespie. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Lanetta Michelle (Lorenzo Davis) Smith and Kimberly Kay (Jason) Root-Sasseen both of Danville; a sister, Loretta (Jack) Harper of State Line, Ind.; six grandchildren, Shannon Balch, Kayla Balch-Johnson, LaCanda Smith, Tanner Root, Sophia Sasseen and Brennan Sasseen; two great-grandsons, Blake Davis and Owen; and a special nephew, Jim Rademacher. She was preceded in death by a son, John R. Balch III and a brother, Larry Taylor.
Sharon owned and operated Donut World in Danville and was a school bus driver until retiring in 2009. She was a member of Central Park Church of Christ. She loved her family and enjoyed singing and going to concerts.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, at Central Park Church of Christ with Pastor Wade Martin officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Ridge Farm. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the church.
