Aubrey Darnell “DD” Dyson Sr.

DANVILLE — Aubrey Darnell “DD” Dyson Sr. passed this life at 9:34 a.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.

Aubrey Darnell Dyson Sr. was the last of 15 children born to the union of the late Rev. Hayes Bell and Martha Ellen Dyson in Memphis, Tenn., on May 3, 1952.

Aubrey Darnell was known as “DD” to his family and many friends. Due to the passing of his mother, DD was raised by his sister Idella White, who predeceased him in 2010.

Darnell confessed his hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age at Eads Baptist Church, Eads, Tenn.

Darnell lived under the guardianship of his brother Clarence Dyson in St. Louis, Mo., over a year period of time. Darnell later moved to Bay City, Mich., reuniting with Idella.

Darnell united with Armed Forces in 1970. He received an honorable discharge.

During his walk on earth, Darnell met his soul mate, Versey Little, and they were united in holy matrimony. They relocated to Danville as a result of his job. Darnell retired from the General Motors plant in 2000.

Darnell leaves to cherish his memories a loving, caring and devoted wife, Versey Dyson; two sons, Aubrey Darnell Dyson Jr. of Danville, Antwiane (Sylvia) Sanders of Saginaw, Mich.; five daughters, Gwendolyn Parker and Angela Rose of Danville, Audria Gibson of Holland, Mich., Kimberly (Trek) Anderson of Danville, Kim and Trudy Scroggins of Saginaw, Mich., and Montrell Rice of Danville. He leaves three sisters, Helen (Jim) Jiles of Saginaw, Mich., Emma (Sullivan) Turner of San Diego, Calif., and Mary McIntosh of Memphis, Tenn.; nine brothers, Isaiah, John, William and Clarence (Dorothy) Dyson of St. Louis, Mo., Thomas (Carol) Dyson of Arizona, Roy B. Dyson of Indianapolis, Claudette Dyson of Indianapolis, Clyde (Dheria) Dyson of Montana, Willie Louis and Willie Joe Dyson of Washington state; two sisters-in-law, Etta (Leonard) Smith of Saginaw, Gladie Rice of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and two brothers-in-law, Alvin (Melinda) Little of Chicago and Marvin (Dorothea) Childs; 21 grandchildren, Thaddeus, DeQuayvious, Angelo, Derione, Antwaine Jr., Sirr, Jayden, Sansheena, TeErika, Syerra, Ti’Osha, NaJarie, Nija, Anya, Aubriel, Tenise, Tianna, Tamara, Kaden, A’Myah and the late An’Tazia “Miracle”; and one great-granddaughter, Ariana, He also leaves a host of nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.

Darnell was predeceased by his father, mother, grandparents, six sisters, one brother and granddaughter.

A celebration of life will commence at noon Friday, July 26, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 311 N. Collett St., Danville. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Pastor Lucius Barber. Interment: Danville National Cemetery. A public viewing will commence from 1-6 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville. Elks Lodge 147 IBPOE of W will perform Elk rites beginning at 5 p.m.
