Ronald G. Tranchant

WESTVILLE — Ronald G. Tranchant, 80, of Westville, passed away at 11:05 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1932, to Romain and Yvonne (Delanois) Tranchant in Westville.

Those left behind to cherish Ron’s memory are: brothers, Norman (Linda), Romain and Gus Tranchant; sister, Jane (Lee Blondeel) Curry; nieces and nephews, Lisa (Ross) Wilmot and Jennifer (Ken) Knight, Scott (Ashley), Raymond (Nikki), Pat (Cindy), Jimmy (Carol) and Michael (Patricia) Tranchant, Julie Mornar, Nicky, Brett and Rob Tranchant, Angela (Mario) Panic, Troy (Tammy) Tranchant, Jackie Curry and Melanie George; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Ron also leaves behind a special friend and companion, Betty Ablinger, and her family who he considered his adopted family; friends John and Sean McBride and other close friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; brother John Tranchant; and beloved friend and companion Evelyn Golden.

A graduate of Westville High School, Ron joined the United States Navy in 1952, where he served aboard the USS Larson during the Korean Conflict. After returning home, he found work as a pipe fitter for Illinois Power and was instrumental in getting a gas line from St. Louis to Belleville. He retired after more than 30 years of service.

Ron was a member of the Westville American Legion Post 51, the Westville Sportsmans Club and Illinois Power Retirees. He was a 42-year member of the Masonic Fraternity and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Danville. An avid sports fan he enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Cardinals, the Illini and the local Westville High School sports.

An animal lover, Ron spent more on feeding squirrels and birds than he did on himself. He loved to spend time outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening, but, above all else, Ron enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He will be remembered as a man put on this earth to help others and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Ron’s life will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville, with Pastor Raymie Gordan officiating, and burial at Sunset Memorial Park where military honors will be performed by the Westville American Legion Post 51. A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, July 19, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. Masonic rites will be performed at 7:30 p.m. by the Catlin Lodge 285.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catlin Masonic Lodge, P.O. Box 1015, Catlin IL, 61817. Condolences may be left at: www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
