The Commercial-News

---- — Amy Sue Hawker, 31, of Danville, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, as a result of traumatic brain injury that occurred while competing in barrel racing at Gordyville in Rantoul.

Amy was born Nov. 23, 1982, in Danville, to Jerrold and Suzanne Hawker.

Amy attended St. Paul’s Elementary School and graduated from Schlarman High School. After high school, Amy attended Danville Area Community College.

Amy worked for her father as the office manager for Hawk Enterprises and also worked at the Veedersburg Sale Barn. Amy loved horses and grew up riding her pony, Chigger. It was not unusual to find the Hawkers out riding at Middlefork trail.

As Amy grew, so did her skills on horseback! She passionately loved barrel racing. She and her horse, CC, were quite a team. She was on the Midwest National Match Team and competed throughout the Midwest. She also competed locally with the Vermilion County Rough Riders Saddle Club, the M & W Saddle Club and at county fairs throughout the state. Amy was a member of the National Barrel Racing Association, the International Barrel Racing Association and the Illinois Barrel Racing Association.

Amy was a completely devoted mother to her 5-year-old daughter, Suzanne Marie, who survives her mommy. Also surviving are her father and stepmother, Jerry and Pam Hawker; her fiancé, Mike Moreland; stepsister, Crystal (JC) Taff; stepbrother Jason (Jennalee) Allison; very special niece/”weekend daughter,” Haylie Armstrong; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; her paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Georgia Hawker; and her extensive barrel racing family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Suzanne Hawker; and her maternal grandparents, Norval and Ruth Watson.

Please join in celebrating Amy’s life at her visitation 4:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 310 Bryan Ave., Danville. The rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Funeral mass will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut St., Danville, with Father Greg Nelson officiating. Burial will follow the mass in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Westville. The family would be honored if you wore your western clothes. The family is being assisted by the Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home, Potomac.
