George “Dale” Winkler, 87, of Danville, died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at the VA’s Illiana Health Care System in Danville.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams, Danville, with Pastor Raymond Plummer officiating. Visitation: 9-10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at Pape’s. Memorials: Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3825 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Burial: Sunset Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 210.
Dale was born March 31, 1925, in Tilton, to William Coleman and Viola Sandusky Kincade Winkler.
He attended Tilton Grade School.
He served with the U.S. Army during WWII from 1943-1946.
He had worked for many years at Esco Corp. retiring in 1987. He loved to do crafts, rebuild, remodel and build houses. His specialty was making wooden model tractors and other items. He enjoyed family gatherings and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Dale married Barbara Jean Kagels on Dec. 7, 1943, in Tilton, and she survives. Also surviving is a son, Ron (Judy) Winkler of Bismarck; five grandchildren, Natalie (Jeff) Weller, Travis (Nicole) Winkler, Heather (Michael) Meidel, Jodi (Jason) Pierce and Stacy (TJ) Draper; nine great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Lyle (Mary) Winkler, David (Coleta) and Virgil (Janet) Winkler.
He was preceded by his parents; a son, Richard Wayne Winkler; a brother, Paul Winkler; and a sister, Pat Acord.
