Benji Kendrick Dominicious Vander

Commercial-News

DANVILLE — On April 16, 2013, God called His heavenly angels and asked them to ring the bell for Benji Kendrick Dominicious Vander, calling him home to be with his Savior.

Benji, playfully nicknamed “Hamma,” will surely be missed here on earth by family and friends.

If you knew Benji, when you saw him there was certainly to be a smile on his face with a joke to follow. He never met a stranger without greeting them with a smile and a firm handshake. Because of this, he seldom made any enemies.

Cooking was his favorite hobby. You name it; he’ll tell you, “I can cook that!”

Born July 2, 1972, he leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his mother, Anita Vander-Buford, and father, Benjamin Westley; his six children, Brentayla Vander, Benazjia Vander, Benji Vander Jr., Dominicious Vander, Bella Vander and Genizjia Vander; sister, Dionne Vander-Merriweather; brothers, Paul Reed and Benjamin Westley; uncles Robert Martin, Alan Martin, James Rogers, Dennis Franklin, Ronald Dix, Donald Westley, Steve (Trudy) Westley, Randy (Vickie) Westley, Eric (Renea) Westley; aunts Elizabeth Mitchell, Kay (Gary) Houston, Doris (Albert) Kyles, Rose (Pastor Bobby) Keys, Elaine (Joe) Rudy, Denise (Lee) Jones, Mary (Scott) Brown, Hope (Dorsey) Eaton; maternal grandparents, Minnie Martin and James Dix; paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Lillie Westley; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Benji was predeceased by grandfathers Benjamin Westley and James Dix; grandmother Minnie Martin; uncles Alan Martin, Dennis Franklin, Donald and Steve Westley; and aunts Doris Kyles and Elaine Rudy.

The home-going celebration will begin at noon Tuesday, April 23, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave., Danville. Visitation with the family will begin at 11 a.m. until the time of service. Viewing will be from 1-5 p.m. Monday, April 22, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home.

Along with flowers, plants and cards, memorial contributions/donations can be made directly to Leek and Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville, IL 61832, in the name of Benji Vander.
