Wanda Ruth (Songer) Hering Kester

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — Wanda Ruth (Songer) Hering Kester, 85, of Veedersburg, Ind., died at 7:50 a.m. EDT Wednesday March 14, 2012, at The Waters of Covington.

Wanda was born Jan. 27, 1927, in Veedersburg, the daughter of Glenn and Elsie Mae (Clawson) Songer.

She was first married to John Calvin “Jack” Hering and he preceded her in death in 1972. She married Robert W. Kester on Sept. 1, 1979. He preceded her in death in 2010.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Hering, in 1985.

Surviving family include a son, John (Paula) Hering, Veedersburg; a sister, Julia Deane Crane, Veedersburg; brother, Harold Gene “Sparky” Songer, Danville; two step-sons, John (Carol) Kester, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Tom (Yong hui) Kester, Martinez, Ga.; three grandchildren, Josh (Gina) Hering, Jessica Remter (Mark Dice) and Trisha (John) LaGue; step-grandchild Tobi (Lisa) Kerns; five step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Wanda graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1945. She was employed as a beautician for over 30 years, and was co-owner of Hering Oil Co. along with her first husband, Jack.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star, all in Veedersburg. She enjoyed music and dancing in her younger years, always enjoyed being around people and visiting with her family and many friends.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. EDT Saturday March 17, at United Methodist Church in Veedersburg with Pastor Matt Swisher officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. EDT Friday March 16, at Dickerson Funeral Home. Interment will be at Bonebrake Cemetery in Veedersburg.
