---- — Ellis Hunter Jr., 82, of Danville, went to be with the Lord at 9:30 a.m. April 11, 2014.
He was born Dec.24, 1931, the son of Ellis and Blanch Davis Hunter Sr.
Ellis was united in marriage to Beatrice Buford for 61 years before she went to be with the Lord.
He leaves to cherish his memory five children, Min. Suzanne (Mark) Hunter Brown, Ellis (Gwendolyn) Hunter III, Ms. Sharon A. Hunter, Pastor Darrell A. (Min. Margaret) Hunter and Deacon Ronald (Henrietta) Hunter; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Morris (Lillian) Hunter and Robert Hunter; and a special daughter-in-law, Jo Hunter.
Ellis was a graduate of Danville High School. He worked for Goodyear Tire Service until retirement. He was an avid sports fan, loved gardening, travel, attending church, cooking and, most of all, his family and friends. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, where he formerly sang in the choir and served on the usher board. Ellis also enjoyed attending The Mind of Christ Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and his son, Larry Hunter.
Home going service will commence at noon Friday, April 18, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Viewing will be from 1-5 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville. Officiating: Pastor Darrell A. Hunter. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery.
