WESTVILLE — Edward “Ed” Eli Lete, 84, of Westville, passed away at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Ed was born on Aug. 22, 1929, in Belgium, the son of Eli and Katherine (Nora) Lete.
He married Peggy Ryan on June 30, 1956, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She survives.
He also is survived by one daughter, Cathy Lete of Westville; two sons, Mark Lete and Jerry Lete, both of Westville; five grandchildren, Eli Lete, Goldie Lete, Billy Hillard, Kayla Young and Dustin Blakenship; one great-grandchild, Dauson Lete; sister, Nora Price of Danville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Lete; and a sister, Lorraine Carpenter.
Ed graduated from Westville High School in 1948. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 and worked at Heatcraft in Danville for 33 years until he retired in 1992. Ed was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westville. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, mushroom hunting, telling stories, tinkering on his Model T and spending time with his family.
A Mass of Christian burial for Ed Lete will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Timothy Sauppe officiating. Entombment will follow the Mass in Resurrection Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the Westville American Legion. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A rosary service will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
