Maurice 'Bud' L. McVicker

Maurice “Bud” L. McVicker, 86, of Mascoutah, formerly of Hoopeston, passed away at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville.

Bud was born on Nov. 6, 1927, in Claytonville, the son of Elmer and Daisy (McIntyre) McVicker.

He married Eileen Penrod on Dec. 7, 1947, in Argo. She survives.

He also is survived by a daughter, Karla Edmison of Alton; son, Allan (Linda) McVicker of Plano, Texas; granddaughter, Robyn (Matthew) Scott of Mascoutah; and one great-grandson, Jakob Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and a half-sister.

Bud graduated from Hoopeston High School in 1945. He worked as the manager at the A&P Grocery Store for 22 years, Prudential Insurance for 10 years and he retired as the manager of the Shell Station in Hoopeston.

Bud was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and served on the Hoopeston Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years, serving as fire chief from 1972-1975. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and spending time with his family, especially his great-grandson.

A Celebration of the Life of Maurice “Bud” L. McVicker will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at First Church of the Nazarene in Hoopeston, with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating. Burial will follow the service in Floral Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Brown-Alkire Funeral Home in Hoopeston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bud’s name to the Hoopeston Volunteer Fire Department or the Mascoutah Volunteer Fire Department.
