Mary Delena Wombles, 89, of Danville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Mary was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Danville to Edward and Clara (Pickett) Walker.
She attended Fairchild, Washington, and Douglas grade schools, and Danville High School.
Mary left high school in 1942 to take care of her mother. She later worked at Jacobs Cork Plant, and General Electric, retiring in 1974. Mary was a former member of the Ladies of the Moose 1001. She loved her clocks, planting roses (especially yellow ones), and raising collies, shepherds, poodles and terriers.
Mary married Ralph Wombles Sr. on May 10, 1941, in Danville, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1986.
She is survived by her children, Ralph Edward Wombles Jr. (Ethel), Betty Bennett (Ronald), James K. Wombles and Rick A. Wombles (Kat); 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; sisters, Thelma Clark, Mildred Reed and Betty Hudson; and two infant brothers, Eddie Jr. and Ernest.
