Lewis E. “Nick” Ray of Griffith, Ind., passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2013, after losing his struggle with cancer.
He was the son of Gordon F. (Buster) and Pearl A. (Dolly) Ray.
He was married to Pamela S. (Griffin) Ray.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela, and four children, John, Michelle, Nichole and Ricky; and five step-children, Henry (Crystal) Slusher, Melissa (Greg) Rodriguez, Amy (Randy) Wegner, Anita (Troy) Skarzynski and Daryl Slusher.
Also left to remember his stories are four brothers, Wayne A. Ray of Las Vegas, Larry (Janet) Ray and Lester (Sandy) Ray of Danville, and Gary D. (Christy) Ray of Portage, Ind.; and one sister, Bessie P. (Butch) Clauson of Danville. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gordon F. “Buddy” Jr. and Harold G. Ray.
Nick was a very proud veteran, serving three years in the U.S. Army in occupied Berlin. He would remember along with his siblings the good times of the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s at Douglas Park. Many friends were made at the dances and rides. Also Garfield Park with the Tuesday night movies. He loved life, family and the many friends he had growing up. He will be missed by all who knew him: family, friends, children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
Friends are invited to meet with the family 3-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, Ind. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond, Ind.
