Celestine Crockett, 71, of Danville journeyed to Heaven on Oct. 22, 2013, surrounded by her family after a year-long battle with cancer.
Celestine was born May 11, 1942, in Water Valley Miss., to William and Hattie White.
Celestine was an amazing mother, wife, educator, grandmother and “Mama Crockett” to many. She always had a heart as big as her smile. She was a member of the Carter Metropolitan CME Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also was a staple soprano in her church and community choir, as she loved to sing.
Celestine’s goal in life was to make a significant contribution to society by serving God and others.
Celestine leaves to cherish her memory four children, Roy Haynes (Linda) of Decatur, Johnetta Yvonne (Stacey) Housley of Rantoul, James Edmond Crockett of St. Louis, Mo., and Hamaria Crockett of Dallas, Texas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members and friends; and a special extended family, her former students from District 118, where she spent more than 34 years educating.
Celestine now rests in peace with the angels in heaven and joins with her husband, James Crockett, who preceded her in death on May 17, 1996.
