WESTVILLE — Thomas “Tom” D. Buchanan, 74, of Westville, devoted husband and father of three, passed away peacefully at 8:40 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, with his family at his side.
Tom was born June 19, 1939, in Danville, the son of the late Harold and Winnifred Chandler Buchanan.
Tom and Wanda Frankino were united in marriage on Aug. 9, 1958, at First Congregational Church in Westville. They had celebrated 55 years of marriage. She survives.
Other survivors who will miss him include his children, daughters, Shelly (Norman) Jenkins, Sandy (John) Hart; and son, Scott Buchanan, all of Westville; grandchildren, Corissa Jenkins, Nathan Jenkins, Alec Hart, Rayn Hart, all of Westville; and Joshua Mingee of Georgetown; great-granddaughter, Rylee Mingee of Georgetown; sister, Janet Wright of New Mexico; special family, Mark and Chris McDaniels, and grandchildren, Nicholas McDaniels and Bryan McDaniels, all of Georgetown; great-granddaughter, Alexis McDaniels of Georgetown; brother-in-law, Emile “Butch” Frankino of Pekin; good friend, Ed Barton of Westville; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Tom graduated from Danville High School in 1957. He was employed by General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1993. Following his retirement, he worked as a custodian for the Westville School District, retiring in 2004.
In his younger days, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and dancing and antique cars. Tom was an avid Illini basketball and football fan, Chicago Bears fan and WFW fan. He was an outstanding gentleman who never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Funeral services: 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Robison Chapel, Catlin, with Darren Johnson officiating. Private family graveside services will be held at Sunset Cemetery, Danville. Visitation: 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday at Robison Chapel, Catlin.
