Roy was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Danville, the son of Bert and Ruth (Wear) Hunt.

He married Leona Short on Dec. 25, 1946, in Danville. She preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 2010.

He is survived by six sons, Ray (Latina) Hunt of Bismarck, Harold (Martha) Hunt of Fithian, Mike (Marvalene) Hunt of Archer, Fla., Larry (Joy) Hunt of Tilton, Paul (Rosanna) Hunt of Danville and Jim (Denise) Hunt of Potomac; one brother, Alfred Hunt of Banning, Calif.; three sisters, Betty (Richard) Stockwell of Georgia, Annie (John) Blakney of Oakwood and Patty Bailey of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 25 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Roy served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947 in Korea. Roy started and pastored several churches in Illinois and Washington state. He was a pastor for more than 36 years. Roy loved the Lord and he enjoyed talking to people about Christ. Roy and Leona spent six years in Mexico doing mission work in the mid-1960s. In the late 1960s, he worked for a canteen vending route in California and transferred to Danville in 1967.

Roy was a member of the Alvin Church of God. He was a handyman and an avid hunter and fisherman; fishing was his favorite pastime. He also enjoyed flying remote controlled planes and, most of all, loved spending time with his family.

A Celebration of Roy’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at the Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home in Potomac, with Pastor David Routein officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Danville National Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
