DANVILLE — Jim Mitchell, 66, of Danville, passed away at 6:36 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 19, 2013, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Jim was born June 18, 1947, in Bloomington, Ill., the son of the late Robert and Mabel (Vaughn) Mitchell.
Survivors include one nephew, Anthony (Amy) Stephen of Newburgh, Ind.; two nieces, Stephanie (Kelly) Scott of Casey, Ill., and Kathy (Dustin) Smith of Louisville, Ill.; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews, Alaina Stephen, Allyson Stephen, Austin Stephen, Baylee Scott, Quintin Scott, Savannah Scott, Laila Smith and Maura Smith.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Mitchell.
Jim went to school at Illinois State University where he worked on his bachelor’s degree and later attended the University of Illinois to get his master’s degree. Jim worked at North Ridge Middle School and at the Administration Building for District 118. He finished his career at The Alternative High School.
A Celebration of Jim’s life will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. Officiating services will be Raymie Gordon. Burial will be in Mackinaw Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
