NOBLESVILLE, Ind. —
Memorial services for Edward John Roda Sr. and Letha Belle Lucas Roda will begin at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams, Danville, with Pastor the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Hopper officiating. Burial: Spring Hill Cemetery.
Letha died Aug. 25, 2012, at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville, Ind., where she had been a resident for three-and-a-half years. Edward passed on Feb. 8, 1999, in Mulberry, Fla.
Ed and Letha were Danville residents in their younger years. They were active members of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed bowling. They met while attending Utterbach Business College and were married Nov. 23, 1939, at the bride’s parents’ home. They were both members of the First Presbyterian Church.
Edward’s career took them to Ohio for a few years followed by many years in Indianapolis. In Indianapolis, Edward worked for Wilhelm Construction Co., and Letha was employed by Mayflower Transit Co. Eventually, they moved to Arizona before retiring to Florida.
Edward was an avid gardener all of his life. He and Letha enjoyed playing cards with friends and traveling throughout the U.S. Upon Edward’s death in 1999, Letha moved back to Indianapolis.
Edward and Letha are survived by their four children, Judith An Roda Casner (widowed — Larry) of Westfield, Ind., Edward John Roda Jr. (Chris) of Seattle, Wash., Betty Susan Roda Gregg (Michael) of Indianapolis and Thomas Henry Roda (Connie) of Lutz, Fla. They have seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Letha was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Elijah Lucas and Lydia Delilah Gates Lucas; her husband, Ed; her sister, Elizabeth Lucas Zander; her three brothers, Lloyd, Lester and Verlin Lucas; and her son-in-law, Larry Casner.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Charles Roda and Anna Eliza Steinberg Roda; as well as his sister, Dorothy Augusta Roda Hargan. His sister Elizabeth Anna Roda died Nov. 16, 2008.
