---- — URBANA — Beverly Jane Shelton, 71, of Veedersburg, Ind., lost her battle with cancer at 3:23 a.m. Saturday, March, 15, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan, 503 W. Jackson St. Sullivan, IL 61951. Visitation will be one hour before the service and Rev. Joel Stevenor will be officiating. Burial will be in Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Benson Chapel United Methodist Church, 7114 West US Hwy. 136 Covington, IN 47932.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday April 13, at Benson Chapel United Methodist Church, Covington. Reverend Brenda Burnworth will be officiating.
Beverly was born Nov. 21, 1942, in Decatur, the twin daughter of James H. and Gayle L. (Freeland) Shelton.
Beverly was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education, Master’s of Science in Education and her Educational Specialist Degree. She also obtained an honorary degree of nursing from Lakeview College of Nursing in Danville.
She was a director of guidance for Fountain County High School, Veedersburg, Ind., director of student services for Olney Central College and director of guidance for Lawrenceville High School.
Beverly was a member of Benson Chapel United Methodist Church, Covington. She received numerous awards in education while a student and in her professional career. She was a volunteer for numerous organizations in the communities where she lived. Religion played an important part in her life, and she was very strong in her faith.
Beverly is survived by her twin sister, Barbara Jean (Charles) Hundley of Champaign and Naperville. She was preceded in death by her parents.
