Ruth Speakman

Ruth Speakman, 76, of Danville, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.

Services will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 20, with Raymie Gordon officiating at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St. in Danville. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Pape’s. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Ruth was born on Nov. 30, 1937, in Circleville, Ohio, to Clarence and Martha (Hardesty) Nungester.

Ruth enjoyed raising her children and attending all of their school activities and functions. Once they left the nest, she entered the work force and worked at Rantoul Products for several years. Ruth loved her family, especially the holidays, and liked to cook. She also could be found quite often with a Sudoku, crossword or word search book.

Ruth married William Speakman on March 8, 1952, in Ohio, and he preceded her in death on March 20, 2003.

She leaves behind her children, Michael (Cincy) Speakman, Leo (Robin) Speakman, Candy (Thomas) Oliver-Carra and Sally (Mike) Conrad; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; and a daughter, Deborah Hargis.
