Rose Marie Cress, 84, of Hoopeston, passed away at 3:51 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
She was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Cletus and Rita (Rummelhardt) Mellecker.
She married Richard Cress on Aug. 28, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in the Vail in Nashua, Iowa. He survives in Hoopeston.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna Crose of Champaign; three sons, Ron (Diane) Cress of Zionsville, Ind., Brian (Jane) Cress of Bismarck, and Brad (Jan) Cress of Cornwall, England; three sisters, Katherine (Marvin) Simon of Riverside, Iowa, Lois Zeman of Hills, Iowa, and Marcia Mellecker of Hills, Iowa; two brothers, Robert (Kathy) Mellecker of Riverside, Iowa, and Leo (Lois) Mellecker of Hills, Iowa; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter; one sister-in-law, Betty Myers; and one brother-in-law, Frank Zeman.
Rose worked as the Hoopeston United Methodist Church secretary for 32 years, where she also was a church member and a member of the United Methodist Women. She also was a member of Women Making a Difference. Rose enjoyed scrapbooking, card making, needlework, working crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles and playing cards.
Per her wishes, she will be cremated. A visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday March 15, at Hoopeston United Methodist Church 403 E. Main St., Hoopeston. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. at the church, with Rev. Andrew Maxwell officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Riverside Public Cemetery in Riverside, Iowa.
