Mary Anne Arnholt, 79, of Danville, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
A visitation for family and friends will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St. in Danville. A memorial service will begin at noon Friday, March 14, at Pape Family Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim McClarey officiating.
Mary Anne was born on April 28, 1934, in Danville to John Veryle and Vivian Morilla (Leverich) Haas. She attended Daniel Grade School and Danville High School, graduating in 1952, and then continued her education at Danville Junior College and the University of Illinois.
She worked for her father at Haas Insurance. After school she moved to Denver, Colo., and worked in the insurance industry. She then came back to Danville and worked for Jack Blackman as a secretary and then went on to work for Bohn Aluminum.
In 1957, she met Gerald George Arnholt Jr., and they married on Nov. 2, 1957. Mary Anne then worked with her husband in the family business, Arnholt Bakery, on Fairchild Street in Danville.
Mary Anne loved playing the Marimba and was quite a musician, although she rarely admitted it. She loved her college roommates, who were from Mexico City and from Georgia. She loved interior decorating and entertaining at home. She was a “Martha Stewart” before her time. She was an adept cook, attending various ethnic cooking classes to hone her skills.
Mary Anne along with her husband, Gerry, were both very involved in local organizations, including but not limited to Danville Garden Club, YWCA Women’s Shelter, Danville Elks Club, Danville Boat Club, Ansar Shrine and Eastern Illinois Shrine Club. She also helped in organizing the Danville Youth Hockey League.
Mary Anne is survived by her husband, Gerald Arnholt Jr.; and five children, Robert (Kristi) Arnholt of Danville, Angela Lynne (Kevin) Ervin of Rantoul, Thomas Gerald (Barb) Arnholt of Veedersburg, Ind., Matthew Arnholt of Danville and Gerald (Diane) Arnholt III of Germantown, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Parker Arnholt, Michala (Evan) McWhirter, Brenna (Tyler) Smith, Elizabeth Ervin, Thomas F. Arnholt, Samuel Matthew Arnholt, Brayden, Lauren and Logan Arnholt; one brother, Doyne (Marta) Haas; and a sister-in-law, Kay Haas.
