DANVILLE — Verna “Delores” Claypool, 82, of Danville, stepped into heaven on Sunday, June 2, 2013, while holding her husband’s hand at North Logan Health Care in Danville.
She was born June 1, 1931, in Danville to Robert and Edna (Aitken) Porter. She married Charles Claypool on Christmas Eve in 1949; he survives.
Other survivors include her daughter, Connie (Russ) Osgood of Danville, and son, Mike (Cindy) Claypool of Newburgh, Ind.; four grandchildren, Sue (Robert) Sadler of Danville, Cindy Osgood of Indianapolis Ind., C.J. (Alisha) Claypool of Newburgh, Ind., and Jessica Claypool of New Orleans, La.; two great-granddaughters, Erica and Alexis Sadler of Danville; a sister-in-law, Hilda Wangler; and several nieces and nephews.
Delores loved her husband and her family and was known for her cooking and baking skills. She looked forward to preparing and serving family dinners and took great pleasure in making everyone feel welcome in her home. Christmas was her favorite holiday and during the season she shared her baked goods with many friends and neighbors.
Delores was a lifelong member of the Second Church of Christ in Danville as well as a founding member of the Whitfield Christian Church of Sarasota, Fla. She and her husband Charles were able to enjoy over 30 years as part-time residents of Sarasota, Fla. She will be missed by family and friends from both communities.
A celebration of Delores’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville with Pastor Drew Mentzer officiating and burial at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
