CHAMPAIGN — Vincent D. Mulcahey, 79, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at C-U Rehab in Savoy, surrounded by his children.

There will be a visitation 2-4 p.m., with a Rosary service at 1:30 on Sunday, Dec. 29, at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St. in Champaign. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1303 Lincolnshire in Champaign, with the Rev. Fr. Robert Rayson officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Bongard.

Vincent was born in Allerton on May 20, 1934, to Ruth and Edward Mulcahey.

He married Dorothy June Ramsay on Aug. 8, 1965. They shared more than 42 years of marriage.

He is survived by his children, Joseph (Katherine) Mulcahey of Dunlap, John (Lisa) Mulcahey of LeRoy, Connie (Chris) Woodford of Geneva, Julia (John) Hansen of Champaign, Mary Mulcahey of Pekin, Mark Mulcahey of Urbana and Martha (Sam) Stearns of Bloomington; 16 grandchildren, Rita and Erin Mulcahey, Sarah and Meghan Mulcahey, Patrick, Sarah, Matthew and Emma Woodford, Thomas, Mary Kate and Grace Hansen, Aidan Mulcahey, Jack, Jakob, Joseph and Joshua Stearns; sister, Jean (Bud) Kaufman; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Vancauwelaert, Nancy Ramsay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, both parents, and his brothers, Edward, Leo and Francis Mulcahey.

Vince attended Allerton High School, St. Bede Academy in La Salle-Peru and was a graduate of Schlarman High School. Vincent served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. After Korea, he returned to the family farm in Allerton. He spent many years farming with his brother Edward. In 1969, Vince and Dorothy moved their family to Champaign. After working more than 30 years, he retired in 1999 from the University of Illinois where he had worked at the Water Station and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

Vincent was a devoted member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. He attended daily Mass and found peace praying in the church’s adoration chapel for many years. He had a special devotion to Mary, Our Blessed Mother. He fulfilled a dream of visiting holy sites in Lourdes, France, and Assisi and Rome, Italy, in October 2010.

Vince spent many years coaching Little League and volunteering for his church and local men’s shelters. He also enjoyed playing cards and watching a good game. Vince loved being surrounded by his family, spending time with his grandchildren and attending their games and activities.

In addition to his family, Vincent loved the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Notre Dame football and everything Irish. His favorite day of the year was St. Patrick’s Day.

His family would like to thank the staff of Canterbury Ridge and Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana and C-U Rehab in Savoy for their loving care over the past year.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Vince’s name to either St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1303 Lincolnshire Drive, Champaign, IL 61821 or Schlarman Academy, Development Office, 2112 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61832.
