Doris L. Cunningham

DANVILLE — Doris L. Cunningham, 84, of Danville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at Gardenview (Vermilion Manor) Nursing Home in Danville.

She was born on March 18, 1929, in Long Beach, Calif., to Raymond and Minnie Prather Johnson.

She married Robert Carrigan on June 15, 1947, with whom she had four daughters. He preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1972. She later married Oren Cunningham on Nov. 18, 1983, in Las Vegas, Nev. He survives.

She also survived by her three daughters, Christal (Harlon) Williams of Kingman, Ind., Rita (Teddy II) Kingery of Rileysburg, Ind., and Donna (Dennis) Meeker of Cayuga, Ind.; three stepdaughters, Debbie (Paul) Shannon of Westville, Vicki (Steve) Miethe of Tilton and Linda (Ken) Overacker of Watseka; brothers-in-law, Robert (Roberta) Cunningham of Covington, Ind., and Dave (Sandy) Cunningham of Danville; sisters-in-law, Norma Hughes of Arizona, June Cunningham of Danville and Regina (John) Sabalaskey of Westville; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; special friends, Judy Mitchell and Amie Lacey; and her special dog, Silky.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Carrigan.

Doris was a graduate of Perrysville High School and later went on to beauty school. She styled hair for many years for her own salon but also helped to run Mike’s Chill in Tilton with her husband. She was a hard worker, but also enjoyed several hobbies. Doris loved to swim at her families’ pools and liked horses as well. She would often attend horse races but was no stranger to car racing either. Doris also spent time tending the bar and running euchre tournaments at the Dew Drop.

Her family and friends will always remember Doris with a smile and a wink on her face.

A service to celebrate the life of Doris Cunningham will begin at 2 p.m. CST Monday, Dec. 30, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. Robert Cunningham will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. CST prior to the service on Monday, also at Sunset in Danville.
