Gerald M. Valenzano

HARLINGEN, Texas — Gerald M. Valenzano, 68, passed away in Harlingen, Texas, on Sept. 30, 2013. He died peacefully in his sleep. He was born in Chicago on July 8, 1945.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl L. Valenzano and mother Mariann Schatek and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He married Patricia Hill on Aug. 26, 1967.

She survives him, along with a daughter, Annette (Thomas) Goble, of Westville; a son, Carl Valenzano, of Danville; grandchildren, Raquel Nichols, Gia Valenzano and Grayson Goble; an aunt, Grace Valenzano; cousins, Duane Leith, Barbara Herwald, Margie Schmermund, Judy Falknenberg, Janet Hinman, Joyce Pilarczyk, James Valenzano and Edward Valenzano; a sister-in law, Holly Ann (Dr. Ron T. Hill), of Florida.

He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Niles in 1963. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, Ind., in 1968. He attended Eastern Illinois University graduate studies in business administration.

He was a member of Holy Family Church of Danville until 1990, when he relocated to Texas. He is a member of the St. Anthony Church, Harlingen, Texas. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Council 754.

Jerry was a retired director of materials management at Harlingen Medical Center. He was employed at McAllen Medical Center, Brownsville Medical, St. Elizabeth (Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville). He began his professional career at Hyster Corporation, Danville, in 1968.

Jerry loved bass fishing, swimming and train travel. During his retirement, he was able to travel by train across America with his wife and visit many historical locations. Jerry was active in Boy Scouts of America Troop 325, awarded the Silver Beaver Award in 1990. He was an assistant scout master under William “Bill” Schingel Jr. of Danville.

A Mass of Christian Burial was performed at Holy Family Church, and he was buried at Resurrection Cemetery, with Father Steven Loftus officiating. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Gone Fishing — Love you guys.
