DANVILLE — Edna Deavers, 84, of Bloomington, passed away at 1:52 a.m. Oct. 6, 2013, at Gardenview Nursing Home, the former Vermilion Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on Jan. 4, 1929, in Lincoln to Roy and Maude Matson Deavers.
She is survived by her sons William Deavers, Jerry (Karen) Deavers Henry (Patty) Deavers and Billy (Amy) Deavers; her brother Raymond; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Abraham; and her siblings Wally, Louis, Norma and Bill.
Edna was an avid go-kart racer; and she loved racing in general, a trait her whole family shares. Edna won the Powder Puff Derby when she was 72 years old. Edna’s goal in racing was not to get dirty; she soon realized that to stay clean you had to stay in front. And that is indeed what she did. Edna also enjoyed mushroom hunting and playing bingo in Bloomington.
Above all else, Edna loved her family. She will be missed by anyone and everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.
A memorial gathering celebrating the life of Edna will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. Condolences may be left at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
