Joe C. Brown

DANVILLE — Joe C. Brown, 68, of Danville, passed this life at 11:35 p.m. Jan. 23, 2013, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.

Joe was born Sept. 2, 1944, in Boligee, Ala., to the late Peter James and Sarah Gibson Brown.

Joe retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He loved to fish, barbecue, listen to music and have fun with his family and friends. Joe will be deeply missed by all.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 21 years, Sylvia J. Brown; two sisters, Dortha (Samuel) Newton of Boligee, Ala., and Lannie (AV) Riggs of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Freddie (Ann) Brown of Saginaw, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Leon) Stewart, Brenda (Dennis) West and Jeannette Martin, all of Saginaw, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Bobby Martin of Saginaw, Mich., Anthony (Caileen) Dixon of Omaha, Neb., and Kenny (Carline) Dixon of Chicago. Also to cherish his precious memory: a goddaughter, Achera Jones; a special cousin, Kat Tillman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and seven siblings, Alma Brown, Betty Lou Brown, Janie Mae Trimble, Pheathur Brown, Albert Brown, Ernest Harris and James Edward Brown.

A celebration of life will commence at noon Thursday, Jan. 31, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave., Danville. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: the Rev. Frank McCullough. Interment: Spring Hill Cemetery. A public viewing will commence from 1-5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville.
