Curtis Sollars Jr., 81, of Armstrong, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Country Health Care in Gifford.
Curtis was born May 16, 1931, in Potomac, the son of Curtis T. and Grace Marie (Young) Sollars Sr.
He married Phyllis D. Lynch on Sept. 30, 1953, in Danville. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2009.
He is survived by three daughters, Donna Sollars of Champaign, Joni (Steve) Newnum of Armstrong and Elizabeth Walker of Rantoul; three sons, Randy (Jo) Sollars of Hope Mills, N.C., Terry (Brenda) Sollars of Eunice, La., and Tracy (Angie) Sollars of Armstrong; one brother, Harold (Joyce) Sollars of Potomac; one sister, Eileen of Springfield, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Ron Sollars; and a granddaughter, Anna Maria Sollars.
Curtis graduated from Potomac High School in 1949. He joined the United States Air Force and served from 1950-1954. Curtis owned and operated Sollars Sanitary Service from 1970 until he retired in 2002.
He was a member of the Potomac American Legion, Potomac AMVETS and a past board member for Bluegrass Fire Department.
Curtis enjoyed fishing, coon hunting, camping, playing horseshoes and watching basketball. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Illini fan.
A memorial visitation for Curtis Sollars Jr. will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home in Potomac. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will take place in Partlow Cemetery at a later date.
