SUITLAND, Md. —
Dennis D. Franklin, 60, of Suitland, Md., formerly of Danville, passed this life Dec. 28, 2012, at INOVA Hospital in Alexandria, Va.
Born Nov. 30, 1952, he was preceded in death by his parents, Elaine Franklin and James (Babe) Dix; his brother, Robert Franklin; and his grandparents, Mae Sue and Homer Franklin.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Mary D. Collins (Franklin), of Indianapolis; two sons, Captain Mosi Franklin of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Anthony S. Franklin of Suitland, Md.; in addition, a niece, Robin Franklin; and nephews, Aaron and Christopher Franklin; along with a host of relatives and friends.
Dennis attended Danville High School and joined the U.S. Army in 1972. During his 20-year service career, he attained the rank of sergeant first class and held duty assignments at locations in Germany, Belgium and throughout the United States. Upon retiring from the military, Dennis continued his federal service as an employee of the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C., where he served for 19 years before he met his demise.
A loyal Washington Redskins fan, Dennis loved sports, music, movies and traveling. He met no strangers and welcomed everyone with a big, friendly smile. He will be sadly missed.
A memorial service will commence at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Elder Tommie Reed. Interment: Danville National Cemetery.
