Margaret Lucille “Muggs” Barrett, 85, of Lafayette, Ind., and formerly of Ambia, Ind., died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Waterford Place Healthcare Center in Kokomo, Ind.
Margaret was born in Iroquois County, Ill., on Sept. 13, 1928, the daughter of the late John Joseph and Mary Artie Tubbs Grogan, and moved to Lafayette in 2001.
She graduated from St. Mary’s School at Dunnington in 1943 and Ambia High School 1947.
Margaret married Hollice H. “Jack” Barrett at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dunnington on Oct. 20, 1956. He survives.
She had worked at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Boswell, Ind., for 11 years, and later was employed at Larson’s Men’s Shop in Hoopeston, Ill., for 21 years.
Margaret was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette; a member of the Wabash Extension Homemakers Club; and enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-nephews’ activities, as well as being a Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving with her husband are two sons, Anthony W. “Tony” Barrett of Kokomo, Ind., and John H Barrett (wife, Linda) of South Bend, Ind. Also surviving are six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Friends may call 5-7 p.m. EST Thursday, Jan. 16, at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. EST. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. EST Friday, Jan. 17, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette, Fr. Donald Gross officiating, with interment following at St. Mary’s Cemetery at Dunnington.
