Bobby Dwight Carpenter Jr.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — Bobby Dwight Carpenter Jr., 64, of Elizabethtown, Ky., passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones at 11:06 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at his home.

He married the love of his life, Sandra S. Hathaway, on June 30, 1968, in Danville, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are his three daughters, Teresa Anne Bienasz (John) of Chicago, Melissa Anne McChristian (Jarrod) of Radcliff, Ky., Maggie S. Coursey (Jimmy) of Elizabethtown, Ky.; his father, Bobby D. Carpenter Sr. of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three brothers, Darrell Carpenter, Randy Carpenter and Terry D. Carpenter of Danville; two half-sisters, Bobette “Dee” Carpenter of Naples, Fla., and Jeanette Covington of Hardy, Ark.; three step-siblings, Linda Divan, Steven Divan and Mike Pollitt; nine grandchildren, John and Lauren Bienasz, Katelyn, Lily, Caleb, Jaedon and Zachary McChristian and Owen and Claire Coursey; and many very special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Anne Juvinall Pollitt; a sister, Dianne Price; and a stepbrother, Howard Wayne Pollitt.

He served proudly in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was a pastor at Four Square Church in Danville and led various other ministries during his life. He was a living example of Christ and was well-known for making sure anyone who needed help could always come to him, whether it was for food, clothing or shelter. He always took care of those around him. He was a graduate of Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, Texas, with a degree in practical theology. He also attended Sangamon State University and studied law.

He enjoyed traveling, was an avid book collector, loved working on computers, woodworking, fishing, camping and watching ocean sunsets when he lived in Florida. He could make a friend wherever he went and was loved and respected by all who knew him.

According to his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and a memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Veterans Affairs Veterans Chapel in Danville.
