CAYUGA, Ind. — Mary Ann Van Sant, 82, of Cayuga, Ind., died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Vermillion Convalescent Center, Clinton, Ind.
She was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Cayuga, Ind., to Jess Bennett and Olive Bernice Jewell-Bennett.
Mary Ann was a retired postmaster of the U.S. Post Office, Cayuga, Ind. She also was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Roman Catholic Church, Georgetown.
Mary Ann married Karl Van Sant May 20, 1950.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Karl Van Sant, (March 31, 2002); a brother, Tom Bennett (March 22, 1961); and a sister, Nancy Bennett (March 5, 1939).
Surviving her are two daughters, Karla Crawford and her husband, Robert, of Red Lion, Pa., and Bennett J. Gallivan and her husband, Paul, of Hobart, Ind.; grandchildren, Gregory, Matthew, Sarah, Alexander and Justin Crawford and Max Gallivan; a sister, Phyllis Smith, and her husband, Pete, of Colleyville, Texas; brothers, Tony (Sharon) Bennett, Fred (Dorothy) Bennett, David (Gloria) Bennett, Jack (Sue) Bennett and Mike (Linda) Bennett; several nieces and nephews, including her best friend and niece, Helen Giovanini, of Clinton, Ind.
A prayer service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Giovanini Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Clinton, Ind. The Rev. Father Michael Fritsch will officiate. Burial: Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Ind. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer’s Association, with envelopes available at funeral home.
