Duane J. Vogel, 63, of Oakwood, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, in Oakwood.
He was born on March 18, 1950, in Watseka, the son of Earl and Opal Ewing Vogel. He will be missed by his two sons, Kyle (Danielle) Vogel of Oakwood, and Kent (Debra) Vogel of Irvine Calif.; his brother, Daniel (Valerie) Vogel of Loda; two sisters, Beverly Irby of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Janet Vogel; his five grandchildren, Gavin, Talan, Karsyn, Julian and Laney Vogel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David Vogel; and one sister, Mary Sue Vogel.
Duane graduated from Rankin High School in the Class of 1968. He was a veteran of the USMC and served in Vietnam. He retired from IDOT highway maintenance at Fithian storage. Duane was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Danville. He enjoyed photography, fishing and gardening. He especially loved growing tomatoes. Duane enjoyed attending as many dirt track stock car races as he could. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
A Catholic Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Danville. Father Steven Loftus will officiate. Burial to follow at the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. at Robison Chapel in Catlin. Memorials may be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church.
