LANDERS, Calif. —
Clara Egly Bounds, 87, of Landers, Calif., died peacefully on July 29, 2013, in Aurora, Colo., after a brief struggle with cancer.
The daughter of Jesse and Ida Egly, she was born April 29, 1926, in Forest, Ill.
In 1947, Clara married the love of her life, Stanley I. Bounds (deceased — 1999).
In the late 1950s, Clara and Stanley moved to Orange, Calif., where, in addition to raising their three children, Clara worked as an office assistant at the California State Forestry Department/City of Orange Fire Department.
Clara and Stanley retired to their home in Landers, Calif., in the mid-1980s. She became an active member of First Baptist Church of Johnson Valley, where she played piano for their Sunday service. She enjoyed her weekly pinochle games at the Johnson Valley Community Center and thoroughly enjoyed cooking, sewing, piano playing and many card games.
Clara is survived by her children, Debra (Phil) Grindrod of Aurora, Colo., Rebecca (Dave) Koster of Fairfax, Va., and Joseph (Chris) Bounds of Palm Springs, Calif.; grandchildren, Ryan Grindrod, Hilary Koster and Curtis Koster; siblings, Lois Egly York of Williamsport, Ind., Glenn Jesse Egly of Dobbin, Texas, Dorothy Egly Garner of Danville, Ill., and Alan Lester Egly of Davenport, Iowa. Other survivors include a number of nieces, nephews, close friends and her faithful four-legged companion, Ruby.
A memorial service will begin at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at First Baptist Church of Johnson Valley, 50636 Golden Ray, Johnson Valley, Calif. Private interment at: Riverside National Cemetery.
