KINGMAN, Ind. — George Arvil Barker, 75, of rural Kingman, Ind., passed away at 7:01 a.m. EST Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born Aug. 3, 1938, near Yeddo, Ind., the son of Wayne R. and Sylvia B. (Duncan) Barker.
He married Sharon S. Keller May 20, 1962, at the Baptist church in Covington, Ind.
Surviving family include his wife, Sharon Barker, Kingman, Ind.; one son, Jim (Kathleen) Smith of Normal; two daughters, Sherri Barker (Eric Crowder) of Covington, Ind., Nikki Aldrich of Covington, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alan J. Barker and Dale E. Barker.
George attended Rabb School and graduated from Perrysville High School in 1957. He was employed at Danville Metal Stamping in Danville for 33 years, retiring in 2001.
George was known to always have a good time. He liked to joke and kid with his many friends and loved to tell stories about the old days and the years he spent at Rabb School. He enjoyed hunting, especially raccoon hunting. More than anything, he loved and enjoyed his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren.
Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. EST Saturday, Dec. 28, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg, Ind., with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. EST Friday, Dec. 27, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington, Ind.
