PERRYSVILLE, Ind. — Evelyn J. Whitaker, 79, of Perrysville, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Monday morning, March 3, 2014, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 11, 1934, in Fountain County, Ind., the daughter of the late Joe and Gladys Wilkinson Beckelhymer.
Evelyn married James A. Whitaker on April 24, 1953, in Kingman, Ind. He survives.
Other survivors include her son, Jeffery A. (Darlene) Whitaker Sr. of Perrysville, Ind.; two grandsons, Jeff (Jessie) Whitaker Jr. of Covington, Ind., and Justin (Amber) Whitaker of Perrysville, Ind.; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosemary Drollinger and Shirley (John) Coffing, both of Kingman, Ind., and Gladys (Bill) Marshall of Covington, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her stepmother, Beulah Shookman Beckelhymer; one sister, Annabelle Everett; four brothers, James, Keith, Junior and Max Beckelhymer; and three stepbrothers.
Evelyn formerly worked at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center as a receptionist. Prior to that, she worked at Illinois Bell, retiring in 1983. Evelyn was a 1952 graduate of Kingman High School. She was a member of West Liberty Church of Christ south of Covington, Ind.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. EST Friday, March 7, at West Liberty Church of Christ on Indiana Route 32 east of Perrysville, Ind. Officiating: Kevin Wildman. Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington, Ind. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. EST Thursday, March 6, at West Liberty Church of Christ and one hour prior to services Friday.
