Virginia F. “Ginny” McKee, 89, of Danville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at her home with her family at her side.
She was born on Feb. 3, 1925, in Danville, the daughter of Harry and Anna (Kacmar) Sims.
She married John E. McKee on Nov. 2, 1947, in Danville, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 2012, after nearly 65 years of marriage.
She will be deeply missed by her sons, Mark McKee of Danville and Larry (Betsy) McKee of Covington, Ind.; grandchildren, Jason (Dixie) Enos and Lauren Enos of Danville, Molly McKee of Springfield and Tristan McKee of Champaign. She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren, Gracie and Walker Enos, Jasmine and Jaden Simmons and Trenton Jefferson; and one brother, Ferman Sims of Gasquet, Calif.; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Julie Enos; sister, Phyllis Brady; and two infant brothers, Charles and Richard.
Ginny was a graduate of Oakwood High School. She was a homemaker for most of her life and worked in the Danville Township office for several years. She loved her children dearly, and her grandchildren were the light of her life. Ginny had a special love for all children. She had many friends, and her very dearest friend was her sister, Phyllis, with whom she shared a passion for shopping throughout their lives.
She was a kind and gentle lady who was loved by all who knew her. Family and friends always gathered in her home for holidays, Sunday dinners with her special homemade noodles, or just to celebrate being together. Ginny loved cooking and canning the produce grown by her husband, John, in their garden.
The family would like to thank all of the excellent caregivers from Presence Hospice and Alpha-Care, who became family and provided loving, respectful and compassionate care to Ginny. Also a special thank you to Beverly Rogers for the loving care and companionship she provided. We will forever be thankful for all of these angels who blessed our lives during Ginny’s final days.
