---- — COVINGTON, Ind. — R. Rex Orr, 89, of Covington, Ind., passed this world Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at The Waters, with his entire family by his side.

He was born in Mercer County, Pa., and was the son of the late Leonard R. and Ethel M. Orr.

Mr. Orr is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary V. “Ginger” Orr. Also surviving are seven of his eight children, Bonnie (Robert) Wright, Randall (Nancy) Orr, Diane Hughes, Leonard (Marsha) Orr, Joanne Orr (spouse, Danny Milhon), Susan (Joseph) Henderson and Karen Orr (spouse, Larry Fisher), all of Indiana. He also is survived by 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Orr, two sisters and one brother.

Mr. Orr was a graduate of Grove City High School, Grove City, Pa. Mr. Orr served our country during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a torpedo man. He was a member of Covington United Methodist Church and retired from R&S Printing, Danville, as a bookbinder.

He enjoyed golfing, attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and going to the “boats.” He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. EST Feb. 27 at the Shelby Funeral Home, Covington. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. EST on Friday, Feb. 28, with Pastor Andy Martin officiating and with military honors presented by Veedersburg American Legion Post. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Box 175, Covington, IN 47932; or to Covington United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 222, Covington, IN 47932. The family extends its appreciation for the care and attention shown by Dr. Tahir Hafeez and his office as well as to the staff of The Waters of Covington.
