He was born on May 30, 1952, in Crawfordsville, Ind., to Andrew Jackson and Ethel E. Flaharty Whitaker.

He married Linda M. Simmerman on July 29, 1973, in Veedersburg. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Tony (LaShai) Whitaker of Hillsboro, Ind.; a daughter, Anna (Matt) Bowers of Covington; four brothers, James (Evelyn) Whitaker, Charles (Phyllis) Whitaker, Joe (Sandy) Whitaker and Dan (Sue) Whitaker; two sisters, Margaret Richey and Carolee (Jim) Huston; six grandchildren, Adrianna, Brent and Carli Bowers, Chanz James, and Timothy and Brooklynn Whitaker; mother-in-law, Lola Simmerman; his wife’s siblings, Ron (Ana) Simmerman and Donna (Walter) Honaker; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Tim was baptized July 19, 1959, in Coal Creek at Tipton Rock and had regularly attended West Liberty Church of Christ for several years. In recent times, he enjoyed Bible study with Les Feldick. He had worked as a mechanic for Warrick Motors and Bilsland Implement Company, but had spent the last 27 years as an electric lineman for the city of Covington. Tim liked fishing, shooting trap with his kids and travelling to the Smoky Mountains. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with all of them.

The family also would like to extend a special thank you to the ALS Clinic in Indianapolis and SouthernCare Hospice in Lafayette, especially nurses Elaine and Kylee.

A service to celebrate the life of Tim Whitaker will begin at 2 p.m. EST Thursday, Feb. 27, at Sunset’s Covington Chapel, A Life Celebration Home, in Covington. Pastors Tom Dougherty and Kevin Wildman will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. EST Wednesday, Feb. 26, also at Sunset’s Covington Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Liberty Church of Christ or Les Feldick Ministries.
