Joyce Marie Cope, 79, of Danville, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.
Services will begin at noon Thursday, Feb. 20, at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St. in Danville. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Pape’s. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Joyce was born on Oct. 23, 1934, in Chicago to Homer and Blanche (Martin) Jackson, stepfather, James H. Owens.
She attended Grant Grade School and Danville High School. She retired from Lakeview/ United Samaritans Medical Center hospital after 29 years on the maternity floor, service supply and central processing.
Joyce married Charles “Bud” Cope on Nov. 11, 1953, in Danville, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 2002.
She leaves behind three daughters, Christine Smith of Rock Falls, Brenda (Lester) Shaffer of Dixon and Alice (Paul) Sollars of Danville; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many loved nieces of nephews; along with a special grandson who was like a son, Cory; a special niece, Nancy Horton; and one sister and brother-in-law, Nora Dean and Harold Sands of Georgetown.
She was preceded in death by her mother; father; stepfather; two stepsisters, Helen and Ailene; husband; and four children, Ellen, Francine, Darla and Chuckie Jr.
She loved spending time with all of her family, and was very happy when people would just stop by to say hello. She will be sadly missed by generations of families who she helped bring into this world through her job at Lakeview.
