DANVILLE – Alice Shanks, 77, of Danville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014.
She was born Oct. 4, 1936, in Danville, the daughter of William and Mabel (Watson) Cassel.
She married Larry Shanks on Aug. 29, 1998, in Danville. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2013.
She is survived by her daughters, Carrie Freeland and Alice (Chuck) Lomax; her stepchildren with Larry, Pam (Steve) Guess, Laura (Bryan) Shanks-Corn and Michelle Gillum and their families; her stepchildren with Tom, Todd (Kim) Jameson and Mary (Stan) Remole and their families; her grandchildren, Tad (Tiffany) Freeland, Erin (Ryan) Wells, and Corey Lomax; and her great-grandchildren, Logan Freeland, Thomas and Taylor Wells.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband from her previous marriage, Tom Jameson; and one grandchild.
Alice was a very spiritual person. She loved and served God her entire life. She was a church choir director for 25 years. She enjoyed reading Christian novels. Alice truly loved being with all of her family. She was passionate about family gatherings, especially holidays. She enjoyed going with family on shopping trips and on vacations.
She was a longtime member of Lincoln United Methodist Church and recently a member of Second Church of Christ. Alice’s friends were very special to her, and the memories shared with them will always be cherished. She worked for Sears Service for many years.
A celebration of Alice’s life will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. A visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at the funeral home. The family of Alice asks that memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Association in her name.
