---- — POTOMAC — Chris A. Knerr, 61, of Potomac, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at his home.

Chris was born on Nov. 29, 1952, in Danville, the son of Elmer L. and Pearl M. (Long) Knerr.

He is survived by four sisters, Cheryl A. Filkins of Columbus, Ohio, Cynthia (Ken) Inman of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Cecelia (Scott) Williford of Danville and Coleen A. (Joan Reid-Hayden) Knerr of South Bend, Ind.; four nieces, Heather, Holly, Tabitha and Madeline; and three nephews, James, Evan and Garrett.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Chris graduated from Potomac High School in 1970. He later graduated from DACC with an associate’s degree in farm mechanics and HVAC, and a master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University. Chris worked as a diesel mechanic at Birkey’s for several years. He also served as the past mayor of Potomac and as an election judge for several years.

Chris enjoyed woodworking, collecting toy tractors, watching movies, playing on his computer, spending time with his nieces and nephews, and was an avid Illini fan. Chris could fix anything and enjoyed fixing things for people.

A celebration of Chris’ life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home, with Pastor Randy Holden officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Potomac Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Chris’ name to the Vermilion County Animal Shelter Foundation. The family has entrusted the Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home in Potomac to assist them in honoring Chris’ life. Memories or photos may be shared on Chris’ memorial page at:
