Herbert Edwin Bedinger, 99, longtime Catlin area farmer, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Presence Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Oct. 26, 1914, in Catlin, the first of three children to Owen and Elsie Puzey Bedinger.
He married Harriett Stevenson July 27, 1970. She passed away June 22, 2007.
He also was preceded in death by one sister, Madeline (John) Dickson; one brother, Bill (Julia) Bedinger; and a grandson, Curt Schmink.
He will be missed by his son, Jim (Linda) Bedinger of Catlin; a daughter, Janie (Dick) Williams of Clermont, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Sharon (Len) Hathaway of Terre Haute, Ind.; and a stepson, Roger (Jean) Stevenson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many grandchildren, both greatand great-great-grandchildren.
Herbert loved his farm and enjoyed farming for many years. He also was a hail adjuster for several years with Country Companies. He loved his family and liked to help others. When Herb and Harriett lived in Phoenix, he volunteered to help a handicapped lady fix things around her house and helped her to appointments.
Herb was a craftsman and could make just about anything from wood crafting to stained glass to quilting. He kept busy many years making clocks and furniture. He enjoyed making things with stained glass. When he was unable physically to do these things, he took up quilting and making baby blankets for his homemade doll beds.
Herb was a member of Fairview Methodist Church and also attended Catlin United Methodist Church.
