Harold Marvin Johnson

HUME — Harold Marvin Johnson, 80, of Hume, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Newman Rehab and Healthcare in Newman.

He was a retired farmer.

He was born Dec. 23, 1932, in Edgar County, the son of the late Omer and Effie (Carnes) Johnson.

Survivors include three sons, Gregory (Caryl) Johnson of Readlyn, Iowa, Steven (Marjorie) Johnson of Minier and Dale (Rose) Johnson of Oelwein, Iowa; two sisters, Harriett (Dale) Romoser of Ridge Farm and Caroline Craddock of Newman; as well as 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Johnson was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served from 1951-1955 and later in the U.S. Air Force reserves from 1955-1964. He was a member and past commander of the Hume American Legion Post 369.

Harold loved watching Shiloh Raider sports, especially girls’ basketball, for which he rarely missed a home game. However, his true passion in life was farming.

For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Hume American Legion Post 369.

Services celebrating his life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Templeton Funeral Home in Paris, with Pastor Paul Romoser officiating. Burial will follow in Young America Cemetery, north of Hume. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
